About the Company

What We Do

We aim to bring exciting and engaging performances of Shakespeare’s plays to a wide audience. We use Shakespearean theatrical conventions – such as universal lighting and a thrust stage – to create a realistic and energetic portrayal of Shakespeare’s work. We always tour to schools, since we strongly believe that Shakespeare should be seen to be understood and fully enjoyed. Through touring, we hope to perform for a wide range of New Zealand audiences.

We always hold open auditions. To hear about audition calls, follow us online.

Who We Are

Artistic Director Ania Upstill has had 20 years of performing Shakespeare, from a lion with one line in primary school, to Anne in The Bacchanals’ Richard III. She studied Shakespeare in Performance through the Shakespeare at Winedale program and loves working with all sorts of actors to bring energy and enthusiasm to Shakespeare’s plays.

Producer Julia Campbell is a Wellington-based theatre producer and practitioner. She has a particularly strong training in physical theatre.

Ania and Julia share a desire to take theatre out of The Theatre and perform in new and different locations.
